SELF-REVELATORY SCHEMATICS

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference a picture speaks a thousand words, what if the text is only a few words long but presented as a picture, hung on a wall?
Coady has been creating aphorisms as a form of concrete poetry, whereby colour, selection of font, monochromatic grounds, raised lettering, high-tech surfaces, domestic scale, humour and the misalignment of letters are integral decisions made by the artist to create a transference of meaning in the works. Coady also explores themes of ambiguous con notations, and playfulness with language in works such as:

I want to be famous but I can't be bothered

Everything's going to shit and I couldn't care less

It is certainly true that many other artists as different as Colin McCahon and Jenny Holzer have used text in their artwork, with these two examples illustrating a polarisation from the deeply personal to the stridently political. Coady's burgeoning series of 'sayings' make their contribution to the intersection of text and art by employing new technologies and humour to convey some of our contemporary fixations.
